Friday Mood or The Story of a Single Photo…

Location: Room 306, FDS-7, MSU VMK Dormitory
Year: 1998

This photo was widely circulated on MSU networks under the name ‘VMKshniki nerds nerd’, but this title is not entirely accurate.

After returning from MSU Central Section practice one evening (remember that I am a great sportsman), I noticed a picture in my room. Fortunately, I had my point-and-shoot camera nearby and was able to take a picture of it.

In that time, my computer - an AMD K6 200Mhz with 32 MB RAM and a 2 GB HDD, running Red Hat Linux (why I remember this?!?) - acted as a server for the MUD game. For those unfamiliar with old-school gaming, MUD stands for Multi-User Dungeon. This game was highly popular on the local network of the dormitory.

On that day, the repeater overheated. As a result, the closer your computer was to the server, the less latency you experienced. Some individuals took advantage of this situation by bringing their computers into the room with my server to boost their heroes.

So now my CV boasts 25+ years of experience in:

  • Building client-server applications;
  • Operating high-load systems;
  • Designing local area network topologies;
  • Administering Linux;
  • Demonstrating leadership skills;
  • Managing personnel (I should have had them all fired up…);
