Business digital transformation.
I have already written that under Priority 2030 I enrolled in two continuing-professional-development courses: “Application of Information Technology in Public Administration and Business” and “Business Digital Transformation”.
I have already shared my opinion about the first programme; now it is time for the second.
For those who do not want to read further, the second programme is MUCH better than the first. If you are interested in the details—or if you are Maria Mustafaeva, one of the course’s co-authors—read on.
The main point is that I am the target audience for this course, unlike the first. The first was clearly designed for lawyers and presented through decrees, regulations and other legal acts governing IT use. The second is aimed at IT professionals who want to deepen their expertise in this area.
There is no filler in the course. Its authors clearly have something to say and do not repeat the same material from one lecture to the next. I even had the opposite impression: perhaps because the course is limited to 24 hours, practical examples did not make it into the programme. Some may therefore find it too theoretical and difficult to absorb. It was clear that the authors found it challenging to generalise many practical applications of the tools and raise them to a higher theoretical level, but they managed it.
The course does have shortcomings. I would single out its focus on the technological tools of digital transformation. These are certainly important aspects, but digital transformation is not limited to them. Many people think, “We will implement AI, Big Data, IoT, and so on, and then we will have digital transformation.” That is not true. Digital transformation substantially changes approaches and ways of thinking, which requires enormous work with people; simply implementing a technology is not enough. I would have liked the course to emphasise this. I hope a less time-constrained continuation will eventually cover digital transformation from more than the technology-application perspective.
The final test was far better designed than the first course’s. I was morally satisfied both with taking it and with the level of mastery I demonstrated.
My conclusion: if you have the opportunity to take this course, I strongly recommend it. Many thanks to its authors for their work. And I will wait for the certificate to appear in my student account.
