The Hidden Vacancy

This post on social media

I’ve brought you a vacancy, but I’m not going to give it to you!

In my post about “An Undervalued Vacancy”, I joked that, to find the right candidate, “we need to write a selling vacancy and build a buying spiral not only on YY (it no longer works), but on DividedOut (we are tracking the DBI – Distant Buying Index), PlasticWindow and various alleys on Radiogram, including ones hidden from everyone”.

I believe that unless a vacancy is confidential, it should be shared through every possible channel instead of being hidden “in alleys on Radiogram that are closed to everyone” – there is simply no sense in that.

And yet some recruiters follow Postman Pechkin’s method.

I witnessed the following:

  • A recruiter publishes a vacancy in a LinkedIn post.
  • They provide no information about where to get in touch: no email address and no Telegram handle.
  • When asked in the comments where CVs should be sent, they reply, “DM me.”
  • And yet the recruiter’s account is PRIVATE!!

This means that without a Premium subscription, the only people who can message the recruiter directly are their first-degree connections. Everyone else has just two options:

  • Send the recruiter a connection request and wait for a response. Then send a direct message.
  • Leave a comment under the recruiter’s post and wait for a response.

Dear recruiters, surely you want to receive applications for the vacancy you have posted from as many candidates as possible?

So why act out this little scene: “I’ve brought you a vacancy, but I’m not going to give it to you”?
