Summer Upgrade
Summer upgrade
My regular handball training sessions with the MSU team ended in May, and I had no tennis sessions at all that month. It left me feeling that something was missing—my body demanded physical exercise to complement all the intellectual activity. But everything passes, and sadly May is no exception 😢
Summer arrived, which meant our small group returned to regular training. But we did not simply return—we moved to a whole new level. Instead of a stuffy gym, we now practise on a beautiful outdoor court: sunshine, fresh air, greenery and even, you might say, water—a proper river runs alongside the court.
My training partners bought new rackets for the new season. I still cannot decide exactly what kind of racket I need, so I keep borrowing different ones from the coach’s collection. In theory, a player of my build needs a heavier racket: it would give the ball the right momentum and improve my accuracy. But I find a heavy racket uncomfortable to play with. Particularly powerful shots send an unpleasant shock through my elbow—the condition known as “tennis elbow”. It is strange that after all these years I have never developed “handball player’s elbow” 🤓
So for now, my summer equipment upgrade consists of nothing more than an elbow brace. I have worn a similar brace on my knee for many years, and I strongly recommend it to everyone. I have no idea how, but the thing really works! I very much hope the elbow brace will work just as well.
If it does, I will treat myself to a racket too!
