Happy anniversary to my beloved MSU!

A few days ago, it was St Tatiana’s Day. I am still a third-year master’s student at RANEPA, so technically I can celebrate the day as a student.

But it is worth remembering how this celebration came about. In 1755, on the feast day of Saint Tatiana the Martyr, the decree establishing Moscow University was signed. Saint Tatiana later became the patron saint of all students, but at first the day was celebrated only by MSU students. It was only several years later that the celebration spread to students at other educational institutions.

That makes 25 January a double celebration: both Russian Students’ Day and the birthday of our country’s leading university, MSU. This year, it is not just a birthday but a milestone anniversary—270 years.

I will most likely no longer be a student next year—I really ought to take at least a year off from studying. But I will never stop being an MSU graduate. Those five years are impossible to forget, if only because MSU introduced me to my wonderful better half.
