Neon Party
Friday mood—or proof that if you work hard, you can party hard too…
I have written before about how much my wife and I enjoy holidaying at Club Med resorts.
Let me explain why I describe it as a “club”. The people guests interact with throughout their stay—coaches, instructors and entertainers—are professionals from all over the world. They live at the resort too: instead of going home in the evening, they stay and spend time with the guests. You keep crossing paths, talking and learning all sorts of fascinating things about other countries.
Club Med actively encourages this interaction between guests and staff.
What is more, staff spend six months at one resort and then move to another in the Club Med network. As guests travel between its resorts, they may run into someone they have met before. This can lead to some very unexpected reunions.
My wife and I, for example, have crossed paths with Mitch, a tennis coach from Mexico, four times:
- In March 2020 in the Turks and Caicos Islands;
- In February 2022 in Punta Cana;
- In January and March 2023 in Phuket (the second photo).
I have already written about how much I enjoy the sporting side of Club Med.
My wife particularly likes the fact that Club Med puts on a show every evening featuring members of staff, followed by a disco—again, with the staff joining in. Guests are usually asked to follow a particular dress code for these discos. Of course, no one will turn you away, but if your outfit looks very different from everyone else’s, you are likely to feel out of place—so it is worth sticking to the dress code.
A common Club Med dress code is black with neon colours (see the photo). Clothes like that can be rather difficult to find in ordinary shops, so whenever I see something suitable on sale, I buy it straight away. Of course, you can find anything you want on online marketplaces these days, but I prefer buying clothes in bricks-and-mortar shops…
It turns out neon T-shirts make brilliant gifts!
P.S. In the second photo, Mitch is wearing the very T-shirt I brought him as a gift, because I knew for certain that he would be working at the resort when we returned to Club Med Phuket.
